morals

In class we have been discussing a lot about being moral. We used the example about the gangsters chasing your friend and what you would tell them. If you had good morals then you would tell the gangsters the real way that your friend went because if you told them another way then that would not be being moral because that would be considered lying. However in a situation like that i think you would have to take the lesser of the 2 evils. Even though you wouldnt be telling the gangsters the truth, you would be saving a life so the better thing to do would be to lie to the gangsters, however according to kant that would be considered not being moral. I think that yoour morals depend on what your beliefs are and how you were raised. I think that i have good morals because i know whats right from whats wrong, but a person might find killing animals fun, and then think its the right thing to do so therefore they think that they have good morals, when in my mind i just think that they are really messed up in the head. Depending on where you were raised, who raised you and what you believe in i think that will decide whether you have good morals. But i dont agree with kant when he says that the only way you'll have good morals is if you dont lie.

i agree with you jocelyn. The example with the gangsters, i do believe that you would have to lie to them going against the moral, lying to someone. in this case, i believe that lying to the gangster is the right thing to do. So i do disagree with Kant!

hey jocelyn(JAWS), yeah i totally agree with you about the whole lying situation.yeah of course it is bad to lie, but in this case you're doing a good deed in saving a person's life. i believe that our morals are based on our feelings and desires. it is how we were brought up to be. so overall, when it comes to morals, i firmly believe that they come from feeling.. good point you brought out..
